How to Set Up a Travel eSIM Before Your Trip
Follow a practical checklist to prepare your phone, install your travel eSIM at the right time, and connect when you arrive.

The best time to understand your travel connection is before you need it. Prepare the essentials while you have a reliable internet connection, then follow your plan’s instructions when it is time to get online.
1. Check your phone first
Confirm that your exact device supports eSIM and can use another provider’s plan. Compatibility can depend on the model and the region where it was purchased.
On an iPhone, open Settings → General → About and check Carrier Lock. “No SIM restrictions” indicates that it is unlocked. If it is locked, contact your carrier before purchasing another provider’s eSIM.
2. Read the activation policy
Installation and the start of your data allowance are not always the same event.
Some plans begin their validity period when they first connect to a supported network. Others start when you install the eSIM. Check the policy before installing so that you do not use up valid days before your trip begins.
Also look for any deadline to install or activate your purchase.
3. Install using your order instructions
Once your esimnexo order is fulfilled, open your account to find the installation details. Use a reliable Wi-Fi connection and follow the instructions for your phone.
If you receive a QR code, keep it accessible on another screen if your installation method requires scanning it. Use manual entry only when the necessary details are provided.
On supported iPhones, setup is available through Settings → Cellular/Mobile Data → Add eSIM. On Pixel, look under Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add SIM. Labels vary by software version and device.
4. Choose the correct data line
Give the eSIM a recognisable label, such as “Travel”.
When your plan is ready to use:
- Turn on the travel line and select it for mobile data.
- Set data roaming on that line as instructed by your provider.
- Turn off data roaming on your home line if you do not intend to use it.
- Review automatic data switching so your phone does not fall back to your home line unexpectedly.
Home-line calls and texts may still incur charges if that line remains active.
5. Check your connection after arrival
Once you are within the plan’s coverage area, turn off Wi-Fi briefly and try loading a webpage. If it does not work, recheck the selected data line and your plan’s connection instructions.
Keep your order details handy and contact esimnexo support if you need help with setup.
